SEA MOSS BASICS

Understanding Sea Moss

What is sea moss?

Sea moss is a red marine algae traditionally used in food preparation and everyday wellness routines. Whole dried sea moss can be soaked and blended into a gel, while powder offers a convenient format for adding directly to foods and drinks. Learn more on our What Is Sea Moss page.

What species of sea moss does EUBEAN use?

EUBEAN sea moss is Kappaphycus alvarezii, a species of red seaweed sourced from Saint Lucia. We clearly identify the species so customers know exactly what they are purchasing.

What is the difference between Gold and Purple sea moss?

Gold sea moss has a lighter natural appearance and a relatively mild flavour. Purple sea moss develops its deeper colour naturally and may have a slightly more pronounced ocean character. Both are whole dried seaweed products and can be prepared in the same way.

Why can the colour, texture or appearance vary between batches?

Sea moss is a natural marine product, so variations in colour, thickness, texture and appearance can occur from batch to batch. These differences may reflect natural growing conditions, seasonality and drying rather than a difference in product integrity.

Does sea moss naturally have a smell or taste?

As a marine ingredient, whole sea moss can have a naturally ocean-like aroma when dry or first rinsed. After proper rinsing and soaking, the flavour becomes considerably milder, which is why it works well in smoothies, drinks, bowls and recipes.

Is EUBEAN sea moss a food supplement?

No. EUBEAN sea moss products are sold as food products intended to be enjoyed as part of a varied and balanced diet. They are not positioned as food supplements or medicines.

PREPARATION & USE

Making It Part of Your Routine

How do I prepare whole dried sea moss?

Rinse the sea moss thoroughly with clean water, then soak it for approximately 12–24 hours. Once softened, drain and blend with fresh water until you reach your preferred gel consistency. For a complete step-by-step guide, visit our Preparation page.

Do I need to rinse whole sea moss before using it?

Yes. Whole dried sea moss should be rinsed thoroughly before soaking and preparation. As a minimally processed marine ingredient, natural salt or other harmless marine residue may remain on the dried product.

How do I use sea moss powder?

Sea moss powder can be mixed directly into smoothies, shakes, drinks and foods without the soaking and blending required for whole sea moss. Follow the serving guidance shown on your EUBEAN package when using the powder.

How much sea moss should I use?

Recommended use depends on the product format. Please follow the preparation and serving instructions printed on your EUBEAN package. For sea moss powder, our labelled guidance should be followed rather than increasing the amount beyond the suggested daily use.

How should I store sea moss?

Store dried sea moss and sea moss powder in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Once whole sea moss has been prepared into gel, keep it refrigerated in a clean, airtight container and follow the preparation guidance provided.

ORIGIN, QUALITY & SAFETY

From Saint Lucia with Care

Where is EUBEAN sea moss sourced?

Our sea moss is sourced from Saint Lucia in the Caribbean, where it is grown in the ocean and sun-dried before further preparation for the European market. Origin is central to the EUBEAN brand and our sourcing approach. Learn more on our Quality & Sourcing page.

Why does EUBEAN source from Saint Lucia?

Saint Lucia is not simply a point of origin for EUBEAN. It is part of the foundation of the brand. Our sourcing relationships are connected to local knowledge, coastal tradition and an understanding of the marine environment, while our European base supports preparation, consistency and distribution.

Is EUBEAN sea moss grown in the ocean?

Yes. Our sea moss is ocean-grown in Saint Lucia and harvested using methods suited to local marine conditions. We work with sourcing partners who understand the coastal environment and support a long-term approach to responsible marine resource use.

Is EUBEAN sea moss quality tested?

Yes. Quality and safety testing form part of our product control process. Testing and documentation are used alongside careful sourcing, handling and preparation to help us maintain consistent standards across batches.

Does sea moss contain iodine?

Yes. Seaweed naturally contains iodine, and the amount can vary. For this reason, EUBEAN provides usage and safety guidance with its products. Follow the recommended use shown on the package and avoid excessive consumption.

Can I use sea moss if I have a thyroid condition?

Because seaweed naturally contains iodine, people with a thyroid condition or anyone advised to monitor iodine intake should speak with a qualified healthcare professional before adding sea moss to their diet.

Can I use sea moss during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Dietary needs can change during pregnancy and breastfeeding, particularly in relation to iodine intake. We recommend consulting a qualified healthcare professional before using sea moss during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
